Game3.js Newsletter #12

Welcome to Issue #12 of the Game3.js Newsletter!

We started Game3.js with a vision:

5 to 10 years from now, what will fully realized Web 3.0 games look like?

Today’s blockchain games are just the early iterations of Web 3.0 games. A fully realized Web 3.0 game will need to be more compelling than web, mobile, console, and VR games. Their virtual economies will need to have the same utility as those of sovereign fiat currencies. They will need to provide more meaning in people’s lives than just being a vehicle for intrusive ads and forced in-app purchases.

To achieve this vision, we need to bring in more builders, and make it as easy as possible for them to start building games in this new Web 3.0 world.

Game3.js aspires to be the game framework that will lead the way 🔥

Thank you for joining us in this quest!

A Quick SDK Update

We’ve been quiet on the SDK front for the past few weeks, as the team has been heads down working on OP Arcade. We do have an announcement on that front— we’ve partnered with NEAR Protocol and are building support for NEAR!

Most of the game3.js SDK work has been under the hood and on the OP Arcade integrations, so our game3.js SDK repository has not been updated as much as we hoped. We are steadily building up our teams though to move faster, and if anyone knows a developer who’s interested in building the future of Games 3.0, please do send them our way!

KERNEL Block 2🌱

KERNEL Block 2 has been announced, and OPGames and Game3.js will be there to support all the new members! Two tracks have already been announced, the Fairlaunch Track:

More KERNEL announcements are coming up, and we’re excited to once again be part of the greatest minds in Web 3.0 🔥

Today’s Explorable: Non-fungible Tokens

At the end of every newsletter we’ll dive deeper into Web 3.0 using explorables.

There are a lot of concepts in Web 3.0 such as Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs) and Decentralized Finance (DeFi) that may be new to game developers, and there’s no better way to become more familiar with them than through play 🎮

NFTs are a landmark standard in Web 3.0, and all game developers should understand them. To make them easier to understand, we’ve created an explorable that has both a live game and interactive code that we can play with.

Please do check it out and share it with other developers!

Thank you for reading! If you would like to contribute to game3.js, do check us out on Gitcoin Grants. You can also reply to this e-mail, or reach out via Github or Gitter.

We’d also love it if you’d share this newsletter to anyone who wants to know more about games and Web 3 🎮

Cheers and see you next issue!
